Choreographic Haikus

A short poem, the haiku has a seventeen-syllable meter, organized into three verses, with five syllables in the first and third verses and seven syllables in the second.

The aim in this interface between dance and poetry is to write the haiku directly with movement and vice versa. That is, to make this relationship a game between matrices that can mutually enhance each other on many levels. It is important to note, in this sense, that in contrast to a significant portion of poetry produced in so-called Western cultures, haikus do not focus on human processes, but rather on those produced by nature, with all its subtlety and strength, and in its magnitude and vulnerability. Nature is thus seen in its deepest otherness.
